I think Mao was trying to block out the loud cheers from the crowd after Yuna's performance, because it makes her nervous. The clips were pretty funny I have the say. ^^

Thanks, No.1yuna. I don't blame Mao for trying to block out the crowd noise. I remember being really surprised that Mao and Yu-Na skated back to back in both SP and LP. Made me wonder if the draw was really random.  Because way to raise the suspense factor with the skating order...

What sort of site are the clips from? Is it a Korean Yuna fan forum? And what do the captions say?
The second clip is hillarious! If you watch the Japanese broadcast of Yuna's LP (download link somewhere on this forum, maybe this thread), the Japanese cameras focus right onto Mao's face when Yuna finishes and captures her trying to drown out the crowd w/ her earphones. That must have been a tough position to be in, but Yuna was also in the same position after Mao's SP finish when the crowd went crazy.

They listen to their own music (favorite music that can help them to create the right mood, that gives them strength) instead of listening to audience reactions, random occasional sounds, etc. Mao just tried to focus on her own emotions, feelings, that were right for her in that intense moment of her life.

It's not uncommon for skaters to block other people's music / audience reaction, etc. It does get to you b/c you wonder, "How well did XYZ do? How well do I have to do to beat that?" and so on. It's just not good for mental focus.
